Queniborough Beavers have had a fun year. We’ve had approximately 25 beavers all through the year. We’ve worked towards many badges. The activity badges we’ve worked towards have been, Health & Fitness, International, Faith and Creative. We’ve worked towards all the different challenge awards, My Outdoors, My Adventure, Personal Challenge, My Skills, Teamwork and My World and we’ve had a couple of Beavers achieve their Bronze Chief Scout Award. We are very proud of them and their hard work and commitment.
Activities supporting the badge work have included exploring around the village doing a village hunt and also visiting the church. We have taken part in the remembrance village poppy project using plastic bottles and painting them in the poppy colours, we have done taster sessions using foods that beavers might not have tried before for burns night and Chinese New Year. We also had the ambulance and police van turn up to beavers to show them around the vehicles.
We’ve taken part in two district events this year, district Swimming gala and the Beavers Winter sports day. Both Events was on our doorstep in Loughborough. For some Beavers it was the first time they’d swam. For the Winter Sports Day we took away the winning title and trophy for the first time in a very long while so well done to all the beavers that were part of the team you all did very well.
In February we had to say a sad Farewell to Anna (Otter) and Tracey (Badger) who had been part of the Beaver Colony for 15 years. We had a farewell party for them both and past beavers attended who had them as leaders and group supporters came along to wish them well. Thank you both for all your hard work and dedication over the past 15 Years, you will both be missed.
We did however welcome Heather Wilson (Fawn) into the beavers for a short time to help us but due to work commitments she is unable to continue. Thank you for all your hard work while you have been with us.
Ollie (Snake) and the Scout group would like to take this opportunity to put out a big thankyou to all the parents who send their Beavers every week, take their turn on the parent rota and send in a variety of requested resources. A special thankyou goes out to all parents who have stepped in to support us when extra hands / adults have been needed. Also, a big thank you goes to Jennie Angell (Skip) and Kate King (Robin) for stepping in when Heather goes at October Half Term However this is only a short-term agreement, so we are needing new leaders for the section to continue.
Yours in Scouting,
Ollie King (Snake)
