October AGM Summary

We currently have 21 Cubs, following the recent transition of 3 members who have moved on. Attendance has remained consistently strong throughout the year, reflecting a high level of engagement within the group.

Over the past year, we’ve made notable progress in improving engagement by streamlining badgework—breaking it down across several sessions—and by placing a greater focus on coaching positive behaviours. These changes have not only enhanced the Cubs’ experience but also made sessions more enjoyable and manageable for leaders. As a result, disruptive behaviour has significantly reduced, with some Cubs moving on and others showing clear improvement.

We are proud to report that every Cub who has moved on—either to Scouts or due to reaching the age limit—has earned their Chief Scout’s Silver Award. We remain on track to achieve the same with our current group this term.

While we always prioritise quality over quantity, it’s worth noting that we have awarded 206 badges since the last AGM.

Our June Cubs Camp was a real highlight of the year, with most Cubs attending. We returned to the Guides’ Topstones site, an excellent location, and took a more simplified approach this year. This helped reduce adult workload and minimise waste, addressing two key challenges from the previous year. We now have a solid, reusable template in place for future camps.

In addition to camp, we’ve enjoyed several other memorable trips and activities, including:

  • A visit to Birstall Fire Station
  • A County trip to the National Science Museum
  • Participation in Remembrance Sunday
  • Several night hikes

Leadership has remained consistent, and we’re very grateful for the continued support of Chris King, who has stepped in to provide cover and help whenever needed. However, we would greatly benefit from an additional part-time volunteer. Despite our outreach, no parents have yet come forward to offer assistance.

Finally, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents. Your help and support continue to make everything we do possible.
